You might be a new Christian, or, maybe you’ve been a Christian for a while, but feel like you are in a rut. What now? How does this whole ‘Christian’ thing work out? You might have heard other Christians talk about God’s ‘will’ in their lives. Maybe you met other Christians who have been searching for what God has in store for them. How do you know for certain what God wants from you?
God did not create us to ‘hang out’ and kill time until he comes back. He has a purpose for all of us, but what? The answer is found directly in the holy bible. The bible is THE source to finding purpose in our lives.
God loves us very much even though we sin against Him. He loves us enough that He sent His only son, Jesus Christ, as a man to save us from our sin. He died on the cross to take away our sins so we may be blameless to enter into heaven when we die. It is everyone’s personal choice to believe whether or not Jesus came to save us from our sin. The bible calls us to repent for what we have done by a prayer to Jesus- then we are saved. Now what?
Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation,” (Mark 16:15). Once we have become a Christian, then we are instructed to tell everyone the Good News! Every believer in Jesus Christ gets to tell people of who their Savior is. As a Christian, you have received the most valuable gift anyone could get! Isn’t that something to talk about?
What are some good ways to show and tell others you are a Christian? The book of Proverbs is usually referred to as the book of wisdom and virtue. In the last chapter of Proverbs, we read, “Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy,” (Proverbs 31: 8-9). We are instructed to protect the defenseless and take a stand for justice. Our speech and actions should reflect Christ in our lives. You can start doing this TODAY! It starts with you, then family, friends and community.
The bible is not just a ‘don’t do…” list. It is a ‘Do…’ list. As Christians, we get to do many things! Historically, Christians are the ones who have started orphanages, hospitals, schools and promoted literacy. We help and love others so our works glorify God in heaven. Others should be well aware of our intentions. We do not simply quench thirst by giving a glass of cold water. We give the water in the name of Jesus so that people recognize our purpose and learn who Jesus is and the sacrifice that He made for us.
The best way to make sure we follow God’s will is to read the bible regularly. When you read the bible, you will find specific ways to serve God. You will never run out of things to do! God gave us 24 hours and seven days a week to fulfill His will in our lives. We have plenty of time- how will YOU prioritize your time for God?
