But, I'm a Good Person!
Are good deeds good enough to secure YOUR spot in heaven?

“I’m a good person; God has to let me into heaven!”- Does that sound familiar? It is a common attitude that most of us have towards God. After all, a lot of us do mostly good things. We help people; donate to charities, volunteer at the local food bank, and always offer encouragement to those around us. Why wouldn’t God let us in heaven?
Look at it this way: There was once a young man who saw a girl that he loved. He heard a lot of good things about her, yet never had the courage to approach her. Then he thought, maybe if I’m very nice to other people she will love me in return! So he set out by helping elderly women by delivering groceries to their houses, he volunteered to do his neighbors’ yard work. He spent all of his spare time doing good to others.
Week by week, month by month, and he kept helping others. He still did not hear from the girl. His friends asked him why did not speak to the girl he liked and get to know her. His response was that he was going to do good to others; therefore, she must eventually love him!
Is that truly how a relationship works? No. To have a healthy relationship, one must spend time to get to know the other. If the young man wanted to get to know the girl, he should have sought her out and spent time with her. Although his works were good, they did not contribute to any future relationship with the girl.
In the same way, if we want to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, we must spend time to get to know Him. He has written a letter to each one of you; it is called the Bible. Read it, and within you will find the key to heaven. God is offering us all a free gift of salvation for all those who willingly take it. Will you take it?
It is not a question of ‘how good you are’ to get to heaven. It doesn’t matter how much money you make, what type of clothes you wear, or which car you drive. To secure your spot in eternity with God, you must accept His gift. His gift was the opportunity to wash away all of our sins and let us into heaven. If we admit we have sinned and repent, then we can dwell in heaven with God!
The bible says, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from among the dead, you will be saved. ... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10: 9- 13.) No other way will get us to heaven except through Jesus Christ! No matter how many good deeds we do, or nice things we say will not cut it. It is through confessing Jesus as Lord.
